Introduction

Cala Mayor was once the preferred summer getaway for the inhabitants of Palma. Today Cala Mayor has become a popular village for all year round active living and the Spanish King has his summer residence here. Cala Mayor has all kinds of shops, restaurants, bars, bakeries, discotheques and a beautiful long sandy beach.

Location

Cala Mayor is nestled on the southeast coast of Mallorca, just a few kilometres from Palma.

Getting There

Visitors can reach Cala Mayor by bus or taxi from Palma. There are daily flights from Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia. Alternatively, Transmediterranea leaving from the maritime station in Palma operates two to five ferries a day to and from Barcelona, taking eight hours and costing from €47 one-way.

Best period to go

In the summer Cala Mayor can become quite busy. However, it is still a very traditionally Spanish town and is perfect for those that want to get away and escape the hordes of tourists in the neighbouring city of Palma. Cala Mayor also offers visitors a great opportunity to experience the real Spain and interact with the locals.

Facilities

There are plenty of activities to occupy visitors in Cala Mayor, from the golden sands to the plethora of water sports. There are also a wide variety of restaurants and bars to choose from, which will make your evenings enjoyable.

Places to visit

Just minutes from Cala Mayor, the capital city of Palma is a mosaic of cultural sights waiting to be explored. The city has a thriving nightlife, with a variety of typical Mediterranean restaurants and bars. Throughout the day you can unwind on the beaches or visit some of the historic sights like the Gothic Cathedral and the winding streets.
