Introduction

Fornalutx claims to be the most picturesque village on the island and even throughout the whole of Spain, and this could be true. The village is found slightly north of Soller and close to Valldemossa and Deia. The only people who may disagree are the residents of nearby Biniaraix who lay claim to the same title. However, judge for yourself when you pay Fornalutx a visit.

Location

Fornalutx benefits from an idyllic setting, located in a valley surrounded by orange and lemon groves with the dominating Puig Major (the islands highest peak) as its backdrop. The mountain is best seen as the sun sets; watch the tops change to a golden orange glow. Early mornings are equally as dramatic as the sun rises over its peak and the light streams across the orange groves.

Getting Around

As you enter the village there is a car park where you may leave your car and continue on foot as you explore the village. In the centre of the village you will find a beautiful square (Plaza Espana), close to the church and surrounded by restaurants and street cafes. There is also a supermarket here that can provide you with your basic daily needs.

Resort Suitability

There are just a few hotels in the village and staying here will reward you with absolute peace and quiet. Don't be looking for noisy music bars and discos; this is one of the most peaceful spots on the island.

Nature

In the terraced land built into the mountain sides are thousand-year-old olive trees, whose carefully cultivated fruit is the prime material of the area's exquisite olive oil. The fragrant lemon and orange groves lining the torrent of Fornalutx have made the municipality famous.
